This time, comedian and former Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader is playing the mischievous feline, who will traverse different worlds in the upcoming 2026 movie. Movies based on children’s books often have to make changes to flesh out the story to fit in the time frame of a feature film.
Dr. Seuss’ book The Cat in the Hat was published in 1957 on its way to becoming a perennial classic for generations of kids. This will mark the character’s animated big-screen debut; Mike Myers starred in a live-action adaptation in 2003. Warner Bros. picked up the rights to the book in January 2018. Rivinoja and Art Hernandez were hired to direct in October 2020 before the latter was replaced by Carloni in June 2023. Most of the cast was announced in March 2024, with DNEG providing animation. And that third world becomes yet another aesthetic, yet another stylization for animation.

Nearly 70 years later, the story remains a cherished classic. The 1980s were a decade that saw several incredible sci-fi movies released, and every year of that decade had at least one masterpiece hit theaters.
